Wear-resistant nylon rods are made with a strong and stiff engineering-grade plastic with bearing and wear properties. Lubricant-filled nylons are made with a lubricant that creates a slippery face that helps reduces friction. Heat-stabilized nylon rods withstand high operating temperatures. Glass-filled nylon enhances the rod’s overall durability. FDA compliant grades of nylon are available for applications requiring contact with food. Nylon rods are lightweight, produce less operating noise, and decrease wear on parts, so they are commonly used to replace metal bearings and bushings.

The most common extruded nylon is a polyamide 66, which offers a balanced combination of performance and cost that provides users with a unique engineering plastic polymer. Nylon was the first engineering resin and is used in a wide field of applications ranging from electronic, marine, and automotive industries, to fibers used to make carpet. Extruded Nylon 66 has outstanding wear resistance and low frictional properties whilst also exhibiting very good temperature, chemical and impact properties.

Other extruded polyamide types are PA 6 and PA 12. These nylon plastic types differ in the properties they represent because of differences in moleculare structure. These differences especially affect mechanical properties and moisture absorption of the nylon.

The maximum service temperature for PVC is 140°F (60°C). The physical properties of PVC can be readily altered by the addition of plasticizers, impact modifiers and other ingredients to develop and enhance specific properties. Type I rigid PVC is a high corrosion resistant material with normal impact properties and is used where chemical attack is the major concern. Type II is an impact modified formula, which increases the ability of the material to withstand shock or impact, but will have lower chemical resistance relative to Type I. Physical properties of rigid PVC generally conform to ASTM-D-1784 (ISO 1163).

Technology has created the ability to foam both flexible and rigid PVC. The most significant growth has been in the lines of foamed rigid PVC. The process of foaming reduces the density of the PVC by 50 percent or more, which significantly impacts weight and cost, while still maintaining good physical properties. This class of products has seen significant growth in a relatively short period of time. It has replaced materials such as wood, metal, acrylic and styrene. It is used in many of the same applications as traditional PVC, but because of its lower cost, it is now the material of choice for point-of-purchase applications, signage and building construction.

PET sheet is a kind of polyester sheet produced by the process of dehumidifying, drying, melting, plasticizing, extrusion molding, and calendering and shaping using polyester as raw material.

Since the polyester melt flows from the die of the extruder to the cooling roll, and is rapidly cooled on the cooling roll, the polyester rapidly changes from a viscous fluid state to a glass state, and the obtained polyester sheet is in an amorphous (non-crystalline) state. It is called PET sheet.

Acrylic is a polymer created when giant carbon molecules combine chemically. Finished acrylic sheet exhibits glass-like qualities – clarity, brilliance, transparency, translucence – but at half the weight and up to 10 times the impact resistance. It can be tinted or colored, mirrored or made opaque. A number of coatings can be applied to a sheet or finished part for performance enhancing characteristics such as scratch resistance, anti-fogging, glare reduction and solar reflective.

Because it’s a thermoplastic and softens under extremely high temperatures, acrylic can be formed to virtually any shape. Incredibly durable, acrylic is a suitable solution over a broad temperature range, and has superior weathering properties compared to other plastics.

Industrial grey PVC rods are very resistant to chemicals agents and easy to machine and glue. Polyvinylchloride rods are resistant to acids, alkalis, and aliphatic hydrocarbons, but is unstable to the action of aromatic and chlorinated hydrocarbons.

Rigid, light, inexpensive plastic, with low water absorption and perfectly machined, thermoformed, welded, Polyvinylchloride rods have found wide application not only in engineering but also in construction, in the advertising field.

UHMW Rod exhibits all of the durable qualities of our UHMW Sheet making it perfect for the application where sheet stock is not suitable. The material is ideally suited for the manufacture of bushings, bearings, rollers, and augers as there is much less wasted material than if the material was made out of sheet stock. UHMW Rod is available in up to 10 inches in diameter and is available out of stock in natural virgin and black reprocessed grades.
